Changing your car’s oil filter

Here are the basic steps:

1️⃣   Tools – You’ll need an oil filter wrench, a drain pan, a new oil filter, a socket wrench, and a funnel.

2️⃣  Safety – Make sure your car is on a level surface, and the engine has cooled down.

3️⃣  Locate the oil filter – It’s typically under the engine, but consult your car’s manual for the exact location.

4️⃣  Drain the oil – Place the drain pan under the filter, and using the wrench, carefully loosen and remove the old filter. Be prepared for some oil to spill.

5️⃣  Prep the new filter – Before installing the new filter, apply a small amount of oil to the rubber gasket to create a good seal.

6️⃣  Screw in the new filter – Carefully thread the new filter onto the filter housing by hand. Then, use the wrench to tighten it snugly (usually about 3/4 to 1 turn after it contacts the engine).

7️⃣  Clean up – Wipe off any spilled oil, and double-check to ensure everything is tight and secure.

8️⃣  Add fresh oil – Using a funnel, pour in the recommended amount of fresh oil into the engine.

9️⃣  Dispose of old oil – Properly dispose of the used oil and filter at a recycling centre.

🔧 That’s it!
